ARAMA e-News Bulletin October 2020

Wednesday 07, Oct 2020

OCTOBER 2020 Edition

A message from our CEO to you

“If one day you find yourself in a time machine - skip 2020”
PM Scott Morrison

Dear Valued ARAMA Member,

There is a plethora of information in this month’s e-News Bulletin (sorry!) This is due to the rapidly changing reactions to the pandemic which continues to dominate our Governments health directives and in some cases its political manoeuvrers.

There is an abundance of Government handouts but a distinct lack of risk management in relation to borders. More border openings = less handouts!

Congratulations to the South Australian Government who has joined with the NSW Government and are leading the way into the brave new normal. At time of writing, SA and NSW are the only States that have allowed access to all Australians with the exception of Victoria. As a result, business is beginning to boom especially in NSW and SA Tourism.

Now if we can just get the borders open again in Queensland - business will begin to boom again. Pretty obvious really!

Enjoy this month's read.

Best wishes
Trevor Rawnsley

Geoff Shortland, Resident Manager at CENTRÃ Toowong in Brisbane

To the west of Brisbane in the heart of Toowong, is Centra Toowong. You will find a community that is beaming with a lovely 13 story apartment building with 161 units that are filled with Smart features such as smart letter boxes and parcel lockers! Many executives, students, and animals call this home, all within 100m of a walking bridge, bus, train and ferry terminal! Geoff and his wife manage the daily business and have been MR Operators since 2016. Geoff knew the developer and it’s all about location, location, location! They started in the building in January 2017 and filled the 161 units within the first 6 weeks and had a waiting list.

Geoff is most passionate about having a fantastic place, wants everyone to come home and have a dog minding service going above and beyond.  They offer friendly service, and do what is best for the building, people, and pets.

Geoff joined ARAMA as he has always been involved in the industry. He believes that learning happens at all times and enjoys giving support to others. He is currently the Branch President of Brisbane.

Some of the lowlights of being in MR has been COVID where they experienced empty apartments for the first time while managing investor / residents’ expectations. The office was manned as much as possible during this difficult time whilst meeting the government distance regulations. On the other side, the highlights have been, the positive feedback from residents, being able to help someone when they were sick and just keep going above and beyond for them. Being elected to the board of ARAMA, and the feeling of being connected within the community, and of course helping with pet management when required.

Geoff & Jasmine’s  top tip: Spend time with people and really listen to what they are saying!
